3 Ways Passionate Leadership Makes a Difference
Fred Rogers famously said, "There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person."
Just Imagine!! With every interaction you leave a piece of yourself. An intangible something that has an influence on the other person. Something that leaves a mark.
Think about the last time you encountered a person with passion. What did they leave behind with you? What influence did they have on you?
Imagine that person as the one who leads your team, department or organization. Now imagine that person is you.
What difference would it make for you to show up as a Passionate Leader?
Before I reveal the 3 ways Passionate Leadership can make a difference, let me share my definition of Passionate Leadership:
Passionate Leadership is an energetic focus on actions intended to positively influence both self and others toward a common purpose, vision or desired outcome.
As a leader, Simon Sinek says,
"You are no longer responsible for the work, you are responsible for the people who do the work."
With that in mind, here are 3 ways passionate leadership can make a difference:
1. Passionate leaders instill trust in those they lead. (Note: Trust is foundational to success.)
When you demonstrate your passion for both the organization's mission and the success of your team members, you instill trust that you're committed to something bigger than yourself.
2. Passionate leaders handle differences respectfully.
Being a passionate leader doesn't mean there won't be conflict with or among team members. In fact, healthy conflict around ideas is a a sign of a committed team. As a passionate leader, you'll seek to understand the issues and use your influence in a positive way to resolve the differences in a way that maintains the dignity of all involved.
3. Passionate leaders inspire teams to higher performance levels.
When you, as a passionate leader, help shape a culture in which team members sense that it is safe to learn and grow in their jobs, you get teams that perform at higher and higher levels. What does that look like? Encourage everyone to ask questions - try out new ideas - learn from failures and see how they come alive.
Passionate Leadership is a journey. A lifelong journey.
